Description

Dichloromethane is a member of the methyl chloride category, and it is methane in which two hydrogens have been replaced by chlorine. It is a dense at room temperature (bp 40°C, d = 1.33), non-flammable colorless liquid with a sweet taste, permeability, and smell similar to ether.   andsoluble in ethanol and ether. As a non-flammable low-boiling solvent. It is often used to replace flammable petroleum ether and ether. It is not flammable when exposed to high temperatures, but may release toxic chloride fumes. Its vapor is a highly concentrated narcotic.
Dichloromethane has the advantages of strong solubility and low toxicity. It is widely used in the manufacture of safety film and polycarbonate, and the rest is used as coating solvent, metal degreasing agent, aerosol spraying agent, polyurethane foaming agent, mold release agent, and release agent. Lacquer.

Uses

1. Used for grain fumigation and refrigeration in low-pressure refrigerators and air conditioning units.
2. Used as a solvent, extractant and mutagen.
3. Used in the electronics industry, commonly as a cleaning and degreasing agent.
4. Used as a dental local anesthetic, refrigerant, fire extinguishing agent, and for cleaning, degreasing and stripping paint coatings from metal surfaces.
5. Used as an intermediate in organic synthesis.

Safety,Security&Risk

When heated, burned or in contact with hot surfaces, it decomposes to produce toxic and corrosive fumes containing hydrogen chloride, phosgene and carbon monoxide. It reacts violently with strong oxidizing agents, strong alkalis and metals such as aluminum powder and magnesium powder. It poses fire and explosion hazards. It attacks some forms of plastics, rubber and coatings.
